At almost 13 kilometers long, the award-winning Confederation Bridge links the maritime provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Wow! This bridge is so long it took two stamps (and a not-valid-for-postage label) to show it all! The stamp pair was issued on 31-May-1997, the same day the bridge was officially opened for traffic. In addition to the bridge, the somewhat stylized design shows the Cape Jourimain lighthouse on one stamp and a heron on the other.
I suppose you could use the description “award-winning” for anything that has won at least one award, even a third-place one. But according to this bridge’s official website, it has won 29 awards! Among these is the coveted Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award issued by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (for showcasing fresh, uninhibited concepts potentially moving the entire concrete industry forward). The bridge’s website (see link below) also provides a cornucopia of information about the bridge including its history, statistics, photos and a worthwhile video detailing all aspects of design and construction.
Apparently, the decision to build this bridge was not as straightforward as it seems in retrospect. In the 1980s, there was heated debate on both sides of the issue. Ultimately, it was left to a vote of the citizens of Prince Edward Island. In the end, six in ten Islanders voted in favor of the bridge.
