When I took the photos of this Fire Station in November, 2016, I didn't realise how NEW it was, having been Officially Opened just a week before.
From the Newcastle Herald - regional newspaper, of 3 November, 2016: "The station brings together three historic Hunter brigades to make one state-of-the-art super facility. It combines the Lambton, New Lambton and Hamilton stations, which have served the community since 1948.
"The idea behind the merge was to upgrade the facilities to a larger and more modern station and to maximise response coverage in the area.
"At the station’s official opening on Thursday, Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner, Greg Mullins said it became apparent the three historic stations didn’t reflect modern firefighting needs.
“Historically, fire stations were put in close proximity in the horse and cart days, but now, they’re too close together,” Commissioner Mullins said.
“The old stations were beautiful, old buildings but they didn’t have enough space for training or facilities for women.”
"The $4.6 million headquarters can fit five to six trucks, includes a bushfire control centre, emergency operation centre, local command centre, meal room and gym." (

* Some of the call outs are from: a dog stuck under a bath tub, and had to be cut out; and a smoke detector beeping (that needed a new battery). It is the combined call for what had been the previous THREE stations. *
