FR La fontaine Villeverte, située sur la place Paul Ferreol, rappelle que par le passé ce quartier d’Aix-en-Provence, aujourd’hui en plein essor avec les Allées Provençales, était occupé par de nombreux prés et champs. Alimentée par la source sous la traverse de la Molle, elle date de 1683 et fut sculptée par Escursau. A ce jour, elle possède deux vasques : une large, à margelle basse, qui servait aux bétail lors de la transhumance ; et l’autre, en forme de conque, qui permettait à la population d’y puiser l’eau. Le bassin et la conque sont alimentés chacun par un mascaron en bronze représentant une tête d’homme d’allure sévère, bouche ouverte. A son sommet, se trouve une urne en fonte placée là en 1848.
EN The fountain Villeverte, located on the Place Paul Ferreol, recalls that in the past this district of Aix-en-Provence, today in full expansion with the Provençal Allées, was occupied by numerous meadows and fields. Powered by the source under the cross of La Molle, it dates from 1683 and was sculpted by Escursau. To date, it has two basins: a wide, low border, which was used for livestock during transhumance; and the other, shaped conch, which allowed the people to draw water. The basin and the conch are each fed by a bronze mascaron representing a head of man of severe pace, open mouth. At its summit is a cast iron urn placed there in 1848.
