FR Dans le cadre du 600ème anniversaire de la naissance du roi René en 2009 a eu lieu la restauration de la statue du roi René, protégée au titre des Monuments Historiques.

La fontaine du roi René se situe sur l’emplacement d’une ancienne fontaine en forme de pyramide et détruite sous la Révolution. Elle est composée, dans sa partie basse, d’un bassin circulaire et d’un piédestal en marbre blanc à quatre faces dont deux sont ornées d’un médaillon (représentant Jean Matheron de Salignac, compagnon préféré et ministre du roi René, et Palamède de Forbin, grand sénéchal, gouverneur et lieutenant-général de Provence) et deux autres d’inscriptions relatant les titres du roi mort à Aix-en-provence le 14 juillet 1480.

Dans la partie haute se dresse la statue du roi René, en marbre blanc également, dessinée par Pierre Revoil et sculptée par David d’Angers en 1822. Il tient un sceptre dans la main droite et une grappe de raisin muscat dans la gauche

L’ensemble, d’un poids total de 6,6 tonnes, a été réalisé à Paris. Le trajet jusqu’à Aix, à bord d’un char muni d’une plate-forme, a duré un mois.
EN As part of the 600th anniversary of the birth of King René in 2009 took place the restoration of the statue of King René, protected under the Historic Monuments.

The fountain of King René is located on the site of an old fountain shaped pyramid and destroyed under the Revolution. It is composed, in its lower part, of a circular basin and a pedestal in white marble with four faces of which two are adorned with a medallion (representing Jean Matheron de Salignac, favorite companion and minister of King René, and Palamede de Forbin, grand seneschal, governor and lieutenant-general of Provence) and two other inscriptions relating the titles of the dead king at Aix-en-provence on July 14, 1480.

In the upper part stands the statue of King René, also in white marble, designed by Pierre Revoil and sculpted by David d'Angers in 1822. He holds a scepter in his right hand and a bunch of muscat grapes in the left

The whole, with a total weight of 6.6 tons, was made in Paris. The journey to Aix, aboard a tank equipped with a platform, lasted a month.
