The mural is located on the Royal Arcade walkway that connects Queensway to the bus station on Tower Way in the centre of Crewe.

The walkway which had been vandalised with graffiti was brought to the attention of the property developers Redefine International by a local teenager.
The regeneration project was supported by Crewe Town Council and Cheshire East Council.

Pupils from two local primary schools were asked to provide drawings for the artwork inspired by what Crewe means to them. The project, completed by a professional artists, One Red Shoe Murals & Artwork, (visit link) also aimed to portray the history and culture of the town.

The stencilled repeat design mural features references to Queens Park, Bentley Motors logo, Crewe Alexandra FC and the railways and Joey the Swan. It also depicts the Rolls Royce V12 Merlin engine manufactured in Crewe and Joseph Locke, the civil engineer and pioneer of railway development who jointly designed and delivered the Grand Junction Railway and was responsible for laying out the original town.

The mural was unveiled to the public on Monday 19th October 2015.
