"One of downtown Cortland's most prominent and historic buildings, the Squires Building, also known as the Clocktower site, succumbed to fire in 2006. The building was located at the corner of one of the City's main intersections and just a block from Thoma's offices. The fire displaced several small businesses and primarily SUNY Cortland students. We worked with the City to secure $2 million in Restore NY funds to rebuild the $4 million building for commercial and residential use. Building owner John Scanlon celebrated the completion of the project in August of 2009. Then-Governor David Paterson was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. "

"Clocktower Apartments have everything you could want or need. We have private parking, on-site private laundry, some apartments even have dishwashers but all the apartments are fully furnished!"

"Luckily, no one inside was hurt, but flames spread too quickly to save the 123 year-old building." ""It's essentially a showpiece of the community and even if people aren't in the community, just passing by it's important because it's part of what they see and part of their image of Cortland," Tobin said."
