After nine years, director Irena Pavlásková continued the theme she began with her debut Cas sluhu (1989). She returned to the character of the weakling Milan (Karel Roden), a man completely under the thumb of his manipulative wife Dana (Ivana Chýlková). In a fit of spite Milan finds himself in a psychiatric hospital and soon after enters into a complex relationship with Tána (Lucie Bílá), the doctor who is trying to help him return to normal life. In contrast to the psychological bent of her debut, Pavlásková here emphasizes the comic and socio-satirical aspects of the narrative.

V manželství agresivní a dominantní Dany s poddajným a tvárným Milanem to už dávno neklape. Bourlivý konflikt, kterým krize vrcholí - fyzické napadení manželky na našem zahranicním zastupitelství v Tunisu pred velmi duležitou obchodní schuzkou - pripraví Milana nejen o lukrativní postavení v diplomatických službách, ale privede ho navíc k naprostému nervovému zhroucení. Na psychiatrické klinice poznává maldou, puvabnou lékarku Tánu. Ta se snaží svému pacientovi nalézt vlastní cestu životem. Profesionální zájem se mení v hluboký vzájemný milostný vztah. Dana se ovšem nehodlá vzdát své "hracky" a Milan stále ješte nedokáže stát pevne na vlastních nohou. Jenže kompromis není receptem ani na lásku ani na nenávist. A tak se aktéri príbehu, ale zdaleka nejen oni, ocitnou v bludném kruhu, z nehož lze pritom tak snadno vystoupit...
