EN: The cemetery on the Hörnli is the central cemetery of the city of Basel, but is located entirely on the soil of the neighboring municipality Riehen. It was inaugurated in 1932 and contains today around 40,000 graves on an area of more than 50 hectares. Every year around 2500 burials take place. A cemetery bus connects the main entrance every 30 minutes with the 12 grave sectors. The cemetery on the Hörnli is the largest cemetery in Switzerland.

The cemetery chapels are located in the center of the area on a terraced plateau. The complex has two wings, each about 90 meters long, with a rectangular square in between.

The north wing contains four chapels with 180, 240 and two with 50 seats each. The two larger chapels are equipped with ring circuits that support the functionality of hearing aids.

The south wing contains a chapel with 160 seats and one with 50 seats, which is reserved for funerals of non-Christian religions. The left part of this wing also contains a museum for funerary culture, but this has its entrance on the rear side.

Der Nordflügel enthält vier Kapellen mit 180, 240 und zweimal je 50 Sitzplätzen. Die beiden grösseren Kapellen sind mit Ringschaltungen ausgestattet, die die Funktionalität von Hörgeräten unterstützen.

Der Südflügel enthält eine Kapelle mit 160 Sitzplätzen und eine mit 50 Plätzen, die speziell für Trauerfeiern nicht-christlicher Religionen reserviert ist. Im linken Teil dieses Flügels befindet sich noch ein Museum für Bestattungskultur, das seinen Eingang aber auf der Rückseite hat.
