Seat of the Bavarian state parliament since 1949, the Maximilianeum is a listed building located at Max-Planck-Straße 1, Munich.
The statue depicts goddess Nike as a winged woman in a long dress holding a wreath in each hand. Two small statues of Victory stand on either side of the goddess.
As the Greek goddess of Victory, Nike was closely associated with athletics and other competitions, as well as war. Thus Nike is normally represented as a beautiful woman, with a lyre in hand, to celebrate the victory, a wreath to crown a victor, and a bowl and cup for libations to honor the gods.
Our photos were taken from the Maximiliansbrücke (Maximilian Bridge).
