I recovered this U.S. Geological Survey benchmark form 1904 in good condition. The mark is an aluminum cap monumented on a metal pipe and surrounded by a square concrete post projecting about four inches above the ground. There are two metal witness posts next to the benchmark for easier recovery. The cap has the designation '965.049' stamped on its face. This mark is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 966'. The NGS datasheet info is adequate for station recovery. My posted coordinates will place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1961 6.3 MI SW FROM GRANTS PASS. REACHED FROM THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAYS 99 AND 199, THAT IS AT THE SOUTH PART OF GRANTS PASS, GO WEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 199 FOR ABOUT 0.9 MILE THEN KEEP RIGHT ON THE OLD HIGHWAY AND FOLLOW IT FOR 5.4 MILES. WHEN THE NEW HIGHWAY IS COMPLETED, IT CAN BE FOLLOWED AND WILL BE A SHORTER DISTANCE. THE BENCH MARK IS 0.35 MILE EAST OF THE REMAINS OF THE OLD HIGHWAY BRIDGE OVER APPLEGATE RIVER, 0.5 MILE NORTH OF THE NEW CONCRETE BRIDGE OVER APPLEGATE RIVER, 110 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 63 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE OLD HIGHWAY, IN THE FENCE LINE, 1-FOOT SOUTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST. A STANDARD CAP RIVETED TO THE TOP OF A 3-1/2-INCH IRON PIPE SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST, AND PROJECTING ABOUT 8-INCHES ABOVE GROUND. THIS IS 1.7 MILE NORTHEAST OF THE POST OFFICE AT WILDERVILLE, ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 199.
