In Foxborough, at Patriot Place, is a solar panel display that powers some of the lights at the mall by Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.

Solar panels are most visible in a plaza by the stadium's Hall at Patriot Place. Generally, parking is available on non-game days.

Four panels are visible in the plaza. The panels are angled toward the sun. I'm not sure if they follow the sun, but it is possible. On the base of one of the panels was a display explaining how solar energy is converted to usable power. The display starts with the following words:

"The Patriots and NRG Team Up!

These Solar Helios capture solar energy which is then converted to power.

The display lights, canopy lights and illuminated sign are 100% powered by the solar panels above.

Here's how it works . . ."

Generally, there are solar controls that transfers the power from the solar panels to the batteries, fuse boxes that protect the equipment from power surges, power supplies and inverters that convert the power in the batteries to usable power for the lights, lighting control switches that change the power depending on the amount of solar energy received, and batteries that store the power produced.

A web page devoted to this installation stated that in addition to these panels, 300 more were installed on the adjacent store's roof.
Type of system: Photovoltaic (electrical)
