I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1949 in good condition. It is a brass disk monumented in a circular concrete post projecting a few inches above the ground and located west of Highway 199. A nearby carsonite witness post makes for easier recovery. This benchmark is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 1379'. The NGS datasheet description for this benchmark is adequate for station recovery with the exceptions that the pine tree mentioned is gone as well as the metal witness post (replaced by a carsonite witness post). My more accurate coordinates will place you very close to this mark.
NGS datasheet info:
01/01/1949 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
01/01/1961 by NGS (GOOD)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1961 2.5 MI N FROM OBRIEN. REACHED FROM THE POST OFFICE AT OBRIEN GO NORTH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 199 FOR 2.5 MILES TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE ILLINOIS VALLEY AIRPORT, 60 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ENTRANCE DRIVE, 43 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 7 FEET SOUTH OF A 28-INCH PINE TREE, AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST.
