The Palace Cinema is the only full-time cinema in Douglas screening first-run realease films and is an independent cinema.

The Palace Cinema occupies the former stalls area of the Palace Opera House which formerly occupied this site.

The Palace Cinema opened at Easter 1988 after the former stalls area of the Palace Opera House had been gutted and Screen 1 with seating for 319 had been installed. Screen 2 with seating for 120 now occupies part of the former crush hall with the remainder of the former crush hall serving as the foyer.

The Palace Opera House was part of The Palace entertainment complex which at one time was the finest entertainment complex on the Island. In addition to the Opera House there was a theatre which could seat 3,000, a large ballroom which was claimed to be the largest in Europe, cafes and gardens.
