Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and
travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16 to 18 day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year.
We were among those people from September 25 to 27, 2017. There were a lot of people everywhere, which made taking photos a real challenge. Even though we do not drink beer, we enjoyed watching street performers mainly at Central Marienplatz and also the many Bavarians dressed in traditional costumes all around Munich.
Our photos show some of them and the famous Hofbräuhaus, a brewery built in Munich in 1589 by the Duke of Bavaria Maximilian I. The Hofbräuhaus includes a restaurant, a ballroom and an outdoor Wirtsgarten.
The largest tourist attraction in Munich after Oktoberfest is the Hofbräuhaus which is also frequented by locals, many of whom keep their own mugs stored there. During regular hours, traditional Bavarian music is played.
The entry to the area and all beer-tents is free.
