Don de la République de Bulgarie à la Ville de Gatineau. Œuvre dévoilée le 11 mars 2004 en présence des représentants de l'ambassade de la République de Bulgarie, de la communauté bulgare de la région de la capitale nationale et de monsieur le maire Yves Ducharme.
Le costume traditionnel des femmes bulgares de la région de Kyustendil représente l'une des formes les plus artistiques de la saya, vêtement porté par-dessus la blouse jusqu'aux années 1950.

Les riches broderies à la hauteur de la poitrine et sur les manches sont probablement l'œuvre d'artistes locaux. La broderie de fil d'or (appelée bikme) au centre de l'ornementation était devenue un symbole de position sociale en raison de sa grande valeur. La blouse de coton sous la saya est faite à la main par la femme qui la porte. Les jours de semaine, un tablier rouge en laine resserrait la saya. Le type de tablier varie selon les festivités. La coiffure de soie et les boucles de la ceinture sont le symbole d'une femme mariée. En se fondant sur les caractéristiques mentionnées ci-dessus, il s'agit sans doute d'un costume de fête d'une jeune femme.

Donated by the Republic of Bulgaria to Gatineau. The unveiling on March 11, 2004 was attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community and Mayor Yves Ducharme.
The traditional Bulgarian folk costume in the Kyustendil region is one of the most artistic forms of the saya, a garment that was worn over a blouse until the 1950s.
The rich embroidery across the chest and on the sleeves is probably the work of local artists. Because it was so valuable, the gold-threading (called bikme) at the centre of the design became a symbol of social status. The cotton blouse under the saya was hand-made by the woman who wore it. On weekdays, a red wool apron held the saya. The style of apron depended on the occasion. A silk headwear and belt buckles indicated that the woman was married. Based on these features, this was most likely the festive costume of a young married woman.
