Titre : Le Coq du bonheur (O Galo de Barcelos)
Don du Portugal à la Ville de Gatineau. Œuvre dévoilée le 10 juin 2009, jour de la fête nationale, en présence de Son Excellence monsieur Pedro Moitinho de Almeida, ambassadeur, et de monsieur le maire Marc Bureau.
Le Coq du bonheur est un don de la Maison portugaise des arts et de la culture en collaboration avec le centre communautaire portugais Les Amis unis, la Mission catholique portugaise du Saint-Esprit, l'Association culturelle portugaise d'Aylmer et Musacademia.
Le Coq du bonheur est le symbole non officiel du Portugal. Le coq, sur lequel est peinte une profusion d'ornements, provient de Barcelos, une ville du Portugal reconnue pour sa poterie et son artisanat, et il incarne la créativité populaire et la vivacité des Portugais.
Selon la légende, un voyageur a été accusé de vol, arrêté et condamné à être pendu à Barcelos. Demandant à parler à un juge qui mangeait un repas de coq rôti, le voyageur lui indiqua que, pour prouver son innocence, le coq se lèverait de son assiette et chanterait. Le juge surpris a ainsi regardé le coq se lever à la défense de l'homme. L'histoire symbolise toujours la victoire pour ceux qui combattent pour la justice.

The Rooster of Happiness is the unofficial symbol of Portugal. The profusely decorated, painted rooster comes from Barcelos, a city of Portugal known for its pottery and handicrafts, and it symbolizes the Portuguese people's folk arts and love of life.
According to legend, a pilgrim in Barcelos was accused of theft, arrested and condemned to be hung. Asking to speak to a judge, who was about to eat a roasted rooster, the pilgrim stated that, to prove his innocence, the rooster would stand up from the plate and crow. The surprised judge watched the rooster rise in defence of the man. The rooster still symbolizes the victory of those who struggle for justice.
