The Ratskeller serves traditional Bavarian cuisine and beer and has been open since 1874. The beautiful wooden double door with glass and wrought iron can be seen from the inner courtyard of the Munich New City Hall.

Two lion statues stand on either side of the entrance to the restaurant. Works of Claus Vetterling (2005), Sommelier-Lion "Franz" stands to the left of the entrance and Chef-Lion "Alfred" to the right.
