Dans la seconde partie de la rue Saint-Bertin s’élève la façade de l’ancien collège des Jésuites anglais dont l’ordonnance cadencée accompagne la perspective remarquable de cette artère qui mène aux vestiges de l’abbaye Saint-Bertin.
Ses briques de sable forment un contraste saisissant avec le rouge des briques du collège Saint-Bertin qui lui fait suite.
A la suite des Jésuites wallons, les Jésuites anglais s’installent à Saint-Omer en 1593. Avant toute chose, les religieux anglais fuient la persécution. La construction de leur collège à proximité du collège wallon au début du XVIIè siècle, traduit par contre le passage à la phase offensive.
Le succès et la renommée de l’établissement, qui compte au XVIIe siècle 200 élèves, motivent son agrandissement progressif soutenu par le roi d’Espagne.
Edifiée en 1726, l’aile qui subsiste aujourd’hui résulte d’une reconstruction des bâtiments anéantis en 1685 par un incendie.
De part et d’autre du portail d’entrée, autrefois surmonté d’un haut fronton portant le monogramme de Jésus, se déploie la façade constituée de 3 niveaux d’ouvertures flanquées de pilastres d’ordre colossal à chapiteau composite.
Devenu collège royal deux ans avant l’expulsion des religieux, l’établissement abrite à partir de 1793 un hôpital militaire avant d’être rattaché, au lendemain de la seconde guerre, au lycée Ribot.

In the second part of rue Saint-Bertin stands the facade of the former college of English Jesuits whose rhythmic order accompanies the remarkable perspective of this artery that leads to the remains of the abbey Saint-Bertin.
Its sand bricks stand in stark contrast to the red brick of St. Bertin College, which follows it.
Following the Walloon Jesuits, the English Jesuits settled in Saint-Omer in 1593. Above all, English religious flee persecution. The construction of their college near the Walloon College in the early seventeenth century, however, translates into the transition to the offensive phase.
The success and fame of the establishment, which in the seventeenth century has 200 students, motivate its progressive expansion supported by the King of Spain.
Built in 1726, the wing that remains today is the result of a reconstruction of the buildings destroyed in 1685 by a fire.
On either side of the entrance gate, formerly surmounted by a high pediment bearing the monogram of Jesus, unfolds the facade consisting of 3 levels of openings flanked by colossal pilasters with composite capitals.
Having become a royal college two years before the expulsion of the religious, the establishment shelters from 1793 a military hospital before being attached, the aftermath of the second war, high school Ribot.
