FR La colline Sainte Maxime était occupée dès l'Antiquité pré-romaine par l'oppidum gaulois des Reii, d'où provient le nom de Riez.
Bien plus tard, la ville se déplace pour descendre à la croisée de trois vallées qui se rejoignent au confluent de deux cours d'eau au débit modeste, mais qui ont joué un rôle stratégique pour le développement de Riez : le Colostre et son affluent l'Auvestre.

Molto più tardi, la città si sposta per scendere all'incrocio di tre valli che si incontrano alla confluenza di due corsi d'acqua con flusso modesto, ma che hanno svolto un ruolo strategico per lo sviluppo di Riez: il Colostre e il suo affluente Auvestre.
