The sign reads:
FORMER GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE
The Queensland Government Printing Office operated in a complex of buildings on this site from 1862 until1986. This building was constructed in 1874 and was used for activities including publishing, composing, ruling, binding, storage and dispatch.
The Public Works architect for this building was FDG Stanley, Colonial Architect from 1872-1881. Stanley's work reflects contemporary European interest in revival architecture as well as conditions in Colonial Queensland. The design shows Stanley's knowledge of French Renaissance Revival architecture and Gothic Revival detailing.
