"The lookout and the picnic area have been created as part of the rehabilitation of the gravel quarry that operated on Cardiff Point for many years.

"The area has been developed with funds provided by Lake Macquarie City Council and the NSW State Government. The quarry picnic area was officially opened on World Environment Day, 5th June 1999, by Cr. Ken Winning, Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Green Point Foreshore Reserve Committee."
