Located in its namesake town of Cherryfield, Maine, Cherryfield Station was built in 1898 by Maine Central Railroad predecessor Washington County Railroad (whose slogan, “The Sunrise Route. The railroad and station became part of the Maine Central Railroad in 1911. Passenger trains ceased serving the station in 1957, but it remained open as a freight agency until October 1975. In 1985, the Calais Branch was abandoned, and the disused building was purchased for the princely sum of one dollar by the Cherryfield-Narraguagus Historical Society and subsequently moved from trackside to a location .6 miles south along the Narraguagus River and Cherryfield’s Main Street with the goal of restoring the station and recreating it as a museum. Although the expected restoration and use as a museum has yet to be realized, the building fortunately still exists
