Wetumka Cemetery was established in 1901. It is a large cemetery east of town with approximately 4547 burials. In 1935-1936, the WPA constructed an 845 foot stone wall across the front of the cemetery, as well as building a native sandstone pavilion at the center of the area. Behind this chapel is a 15 foot high native sand stone water tower with a metal domed top. The tower appears to still be in use by the maintenance crew at the cemetery.
The WPA construction at this cemetery, including this water tower, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
