Edzell is a large village in the county of Angus in eastern Scotland. Its arrow straight high street heads northwards towards the eastern Grampian Mountains, and not far into the village on the left at the junction with Dunlappie Road is a triangular section of parkland containing a well tended garden area where the First World War memorial is situated.
The memorial is a granite obelisk on a square stepped base, a carved wreath is the main feature on the face where the inscription reads as follows:
TO THE UNCONQUERED DEAD
IN HONOURED MEMORY OF OUR MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
WE OWE MORE TEARS TO THESE DEAD MEN THAN TIME SHALL SEE US PAY
All inscriptions and names are in black leaded lettering. There are 24 names, a large proportion from the Canadian Infantry. At the base, 6 names were added from World War II.
The memorial has won awards for being one of the best looked after in Scottish villages.
