The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was established in 1959 The first Basketball Hall of Fame building, located on the campus of Springfield College, opened on February 17, 1968. In 1985 the Basketball Hall of Fame moved to this $11 million facility located at 1150 W Columbus Ave adjacent to the Connecticut River in Springfield, MA. In 2002, the Basketball Hall of Fame moved again 100 yards south to its present location along the Connecticut River.
This second, former Basketball Hall of Fame building was acquired by LA Fitness which opened a fitness facility on July 25, 2008.
