Built by William F. Hayden in 1883

"The two story red brick building has red terra-cotta tiles on the roof matching those of the nearby Courthouse. The original cost to build the jail was $25,440. Addition was added in 1894 including more cell space and a boiler room. A tunnel used to connect the jail to the courthouse to heat the courthouse. Originally, the jail was designed to house the sheriff's family as well as prisoners." ~ NRHP Nomination Form
