In Newport, along Bellevue Avenue, is the Audrain Building, which is ornately decorated, especially around the entrance.
The building is located on the east side of Bellevue Avenue, about a block south of the intersection with Memorial Blvd.
The Audrain Block is a rectangular brick building with mostly white stone trim. It has large windows on both floors, framed by detailed arches - six in total. At the center is the single door entrance, also framed by detail features. Above the door are other features that include a mask-like face, and, on either side - two youths standing in a blue oval, connected by other features. Near the roof is additional details that include shields bearing the images of lions, shells, and intertwined snakes (like the medical symbol). Above are fish-like heads that remind me of the 'Creature from the Black Lagoon.' Above them is the roof with a white railing and pedestals on which lions stand holding blue shields with a green cross.
One of the sources stated that the designs were based on features found on a hospital building in Italy made in the Italian Renaissance architecture based on the artist Luca dela Robbia.
