The city of Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland and is situated on the north-east coast. The city boundary extends several miles inland covering commuter villages and towns, and also a wide swathe of rural areas. Just north of west around six miles from the city centre is Brimmond Hill, at 266 metres high, the highest point in the city, and recognisable by the myriad of antenna on its summit. A tarmac road leads to the top from the north and at the access car park is a sign on a stone tablet featuring this map.
The sign is a guide for the Four Hills Walks, a project started in partnership with the City of Aberdeen District Council, the Forestry Commission, and the Scottish Agricultural College, all landowners of the surrounding area of the walks.
The four hills in question are Brimmond Hill, Kirkhill Forest, Elrick Hill, and West Woods, Newhills. The walks are outlined on the map along with your current position at the car park.
The project was started to make the area north-west of Aberdeen more accessible to walkers.
