( Fr )L'abbaye de Marmoutier est une ancienne abbaye bénédictine située enn bordure de Loire. Elle fut sans doute fondée par Martin de Tours en 372, l'abbaye connut son apogée au Moyen Âge. Elle fut démembrée sous la Révolution française. Rachetés par les sœurs du Sacré-Cœur, les bâtiments rescapés on été restaurés et d'autres construits pour abriter un établissement d'enseignement privé toujours en activité au XXIe siècle.
La partie du site abritant les vestiges de l'ancienne abbaye a été rachetée par la ville de Tours en 1981 et des fouilles archéologiques y sont en cours depuis 2004.
(En) The abbey of Marmoutier is a former Benedictine abbey located on the edge of the Loire. It was undoubtedly founded by Martin de Tours in 372, the abbey knew its apogee in the Middle Ages. It was dismembered under the French Revolution. Redeemed by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the surviving buildings have been restored and others built to house a private school still in operation in the 21st century.
The part of the site containing the remains of the old abbey was bought by the city of Tours in 1981 and archaeological excavations have been going on since 2004.
