In Newport, along Bellevue Avenue, is the Audrain Block, adorned with many lion chimeras.
The Audrain Block is a rectangular brick building with mostly white stone trim.
Twelve lions are placed on the top: two facing one end, two facing another end, and eight facing Bellevue Avenue. Each lion is on his hind feet that are on a ball, his front feet on a shield that has a cross on it and is colored blue and green, his mouth open.
The building and lions are in great shape.
A sign across the street states that this building is part of the Bellevue Avenue National Historic Landmark District. It was built in 1902-3 for New York Merchant Adolphe Audrain, who housed medical offices in it. The architect was Bruce Price.
The building now houses the Audrain Auto Museum.
