Long Description:

[EN] "Bassenheim with a proud history

Bassenheim is one of the oldest settlement areas in the world. Excavations on the Karmelenberg have proven that the first humans, ice-hunters, lived here 200,000 years ago. 2,500 years ago, there was a Celtic settlement on today's tennis courts with a weaving house, the first Bassenheim craft enterprise. Barrows from the Latene period and a Roman burial ground testify to a settlement until our new era. The current Bassenheim was created during the Frankish conquest around 500 AD. From about 970 to 1861 coined the family of the Walpots / Waldbotts, which after the suppression of a second knight sex the nickname "von Bassenheim", the history of the place. In 1118 Heinrich Walpot became the first Grand Master of the German Order in Akko / Palestine. Siegfried Walpot, Komptur and supreme spittler in the Order's state, founded in 1386 the oldest city of Masuria u. gave her the name Bassenheim, today Polish "Pasym", twin town Bassenheims."
