"At the very top of the TV-radio tower on the roof of the CHUM building in the ByWard market is the sculpture the Garners installed in 2000.
"Dagain" is the old English word for dawn. We wanted Canada to have a goddess, so we invented one. We actually wrote this entire folklore history behind her.
The story goes that Dagain and her mate spend daylight locked in stillness, but before the dawn they fly over the city.
I look up the TV tower and there they are, waiting for the pre-dawn flight, their nightly, fleeting hours of life and its liberating potential. How joyful it is amid the bustle and hardness of city life. How unexpected.
