There existed in Lhommaizé a small Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist, normally oriented, whose cure depended on the chapter of Morthemer.
It was rebuilt from 1870. The date of 1871 appears on the handle of the front door.
The church, built by the chauvinist Brimaud on the plans of the Abbe Brisacier and the architect Ardouin, was consecrated on October 15, 1876. It has a Latin cross plan and replaces the materials of the destroyed building.
The nave includes three neo-Gothic bays. It is accessed through a span under tribune forming narthex. On both sides of this passage, according to a device frequently used at that time, the baptismal font occupies the lateral space on the left, the access to the tribune, the right one.
The wide transept of two bays does not break with the nave. A similar plan can be found in Chalandray. Each of his arms is prolonged by an absidiole.
The five-sided sanctuary receives the day of three bays.

Il existait à Lhommaizé une petite église romane Saint-Jean-Baptiste, normalement orientée, dont la cure dépendait du chapitre de Morthemer.
Elle fut reconstruite à partir de 1870. La date de 1871 figure sur la poignée de la porte d’entrée.
L’église, élevée par le chauvinois Brimaud sur les plans de l’abbé Brisacier et de l’architecte Ardouin, fut consacrée le 15 octobre 1876. Elle a un plan en croix latine et remploie des matériaux de l’édifice détruit.
La nef comprend trois travées néo-gothiques. On y accède en passant par une travée sous tribune formant narthex. De part et d’autre de ce passage, selon un dispositif fréquemment mis en œuvre à cette époque, les fonts baptismaux occupent l’espace latéral de gauche, l’accès à la tribune, celui de droite.
Le large transept de deux travées ne fait pas rupture avec la nef. Un plan comparable se retrouve à Chalandray. Chacun de ses bras est prolongé par une absidiole.
Le sanctuaire à cinq pans reçoit le jour de trois baies.
