The bridge was an experimental design using thermoplastic to construct a bridge that would not only provide a means to span an obstacle but support a large weight capacity.

The world's first Thermoplastic Composite Bridge capable of sustaining loads exceeding 70 tons. Project sponsors include Fort Brag Directorate of Public Works, Department of Defense, Army Corrosion Prevention and Control Program, Army Installation Technology Transition Program. The bridge was placed in May 2009.

The following link shows an M1A-1 Abrams Tank crossing the completed bridge. In the opening scene, the old dilapidated wooden bridge is shown.
