"The first church in Otego was organized on September 17, 1805, at the home of Abraham Blaklee. It was first known as the Congregational but later called the Presbyterian. Rev. Abner Benedict was chosen as moderator, Ashael Packard and Daniel Knapp as deacons, and Ashael Packard as clerk. The ten original members were Ashael Packard, Daniel Ogden, Susannah Ogden, Mary Overhizer, Zenas Goodrich, Mary Goodrich, Christian Goodrich, M. Goodrich, Daniel Knapp and Samuel Elwell. The church was built in 1816 on the east side of Otego near the Bundy cemetery. "
"The Congregational church had no regular pastor at first. On August 12, 1807, the Rev. William Bull was chosen pastor. Two earlier pastors were the Elders Morse and Robinson. Several years went by and a larger church was needed. The Butternuts church became divided over church law and 67 new members united with the Otego Congregationalists in 1820. The Congregational Society bought the present church property on River Street from James and Lucinda Follett for $100. The indenture was made on June 24, 1830. The new church was dedicated in 1833, having cost $2900 to complete. The architecture of this church is much like that found in New England. In 1852 the church bell was purchased. Since this time, other modernizations have been made, including an oil furnace to replace the two coal burning stoves in the back of the church. An electric organ also replaced the hand-pumped pipe organ."
