A Historical Information Sign has the following about the Blackwall Building:
"This building was erected in 1911 for Abdullah Skype and leased by Chas. E. Blackwell & Son as a general store.
"It replaced a 1906 building, also erected for Mr Skype, which had been leased to McClelland & Austin for general store.
"It became the temporary Bank of New South Wales after their premises, (opposite), were destroyed by the 1939 fire.
"At different stages in its history it has been divided into two shops."
