Abrams Animal Farm/1661 Farm and Gardens - New Shoreham, RI - Roadside Attractions on Waymarking.com

In New Shoreham, along Spring Street and south of the village of Old Harbor, is Abrams Animal Farm, an attraction where people can see exotic animals.

The attraction is located on the west side of Spring Street, about a quarter mile south of the intersection of Water Street, High Street, and Spring Street - where there is a fountain. The sign has "Northern Lights Fibers" then, in smaller letters, is "Abrams Animal Farm." Of course, to get here, from other places, you can take the plane or ferry. It is expensive to take a car, but you can easily walk to the place from the ferry.

From the parking lot, there is a very short walk to a penned in area where animals roamed around. There is a kiosk that has a little information about the place. The "farm" was a pet project of Justin E. Abrams, who lived until 2016. The Abrams family owns both the 1661 Inn and Hotel Manissus near the place. One sign at the kiosk prominently shows the 1661 Inn logo.

There are other signs on the fence introducing people to the animals. One was for "Justice," a cattle-like animal, which also stated to be careful around the horns when feeding him. Another was a striped burro type animal named "Cindy." I also saw a camel and an emu.

A web site, BlockIslandGuide.com, had this to say about the farm:

"A collection of exotic and domestic animals is maintained by Justin Abrams, owner of the 1661 Inn & Hotel Manisses. The small hobby farm between Spring and High streets is home to llamas, emus, sheep, donkeys, goats, swans, ducks, even camels! They all live happily together on the hillside meadow south of the hotel. Visitors are free to view the animals here all year long. A wonderful attraction you won’t want to miss. Feed is available for the hungry goats and emus. Accessible from dawn to dusk."
