The Proclamation Tree (a Moreton Bay Fig) was planted on the 21st of October 1890 (Trafalgar Day) by the Governor, on the occasion of the granting by Queen Victoria of Responsible Government to the State of Western Australia
A celtic cross and a plaque is to the memory of William Edward Marmion , a statesman who died in 1896. The cross was carved by P G Porcelli and V Reilly in 1901. The plaque was donated by the Fremantle Boys' School in the 1930s.
