EN: The Veteran Memorial of Aarau stands on the Graben in front of the Upper Tower. The bronze sculpture shows a larger than life soldier without a helmet and weapons in a defensive position. The foundation has the inscription: "The Aargau to its soldiers / 1914-1918 / 1939-1945" and on the back:" Freedom only protects the ones who protect it. "
The statue was created in 1949 by the sculptor Ernst Suter.
DE: Das Wehrmännerdenkmal von Aarau steht am Graben vor dem Oberen Turm. Die Bronzeplastik zeigt einen überlebensgrossen Soldaten ohne Helm und Waffen in abwehrender Haltung. Auf dem Fundament steht: "Der Aargau seinen Soldaten / 1914-1918 / 1939-1945" und auf der Rückseite: "Den schützt die Freiheit nur, der sie beschützt."
Die Statue wurde 1949 vom Bildhauer Ernst Suter geschaffen.
