A World War II pillbox on Ballavarran Road (B5) near to the former RAF Jurby airfield.
The pillbox is one of the pillboxes sited around the perimeter of the airfield at RAF Jurby during World War II. The pillboxes were placed randomly around the perimeter, although usually, at the corner of a pre-existing field boundary, to aid concealment whilst also overlooking aircraft dispersal areas.
Of the original 10 pillboxes; 9 still survive today. The tenth pillbox was removed when the main runway was extended after the War to allow larger civil aircraft to land as an alternative to landing at Ronaldsway the Isle of Man's principal civil airport.
On the Pillbox Study Group's (PSGs)list of Isle of Man Pillboxes this boxes is identified as follows:

This pillbox is a type FW3/22 and consists of thick-walled (42in) reinforced concrete with a brick outer skin. The interior has an irregular-shaped anti-ricochet concrete wall.
