In New Shoreham, by the Block Island Historical Society Museum, is a stone bench with and inscription in it attributed to Jean Jaurez.
The bench is located on the property of the museum, on one side of the walkway to the front entrance. The museum is at the corner of Ocean Avenue, Old Town Road, Dodge Street, and Corn Neck Road.
The bench is a granite bench, roughly cut on the sides and top. On the top is the inscription:
"Take from the altar of the past the fire not the ashes
Jean Jaurez"
According to a web site, Jean Jaurez was a social party leader in France. He was born in 1859 and as assassinated in 1914.
