This pillar is situated 111 metres above sea level in undulating pastureland just north of the River Almond where it is crossed by a bridge at Dalcrue. It lies four miles north-west of the city of Perth and the closest settlement is the village of Methven, around one and a half miles to the south-west. The pillar, which sits on top of a small hill within a field, is in good condition. Views are restricted due to higher ground nearby, but the Lomond Hills in Fife are visible on the south-eastern horizon.
STEEPNESS: The final hundred yards or so to the pillar is a short, sharp climb.
TERRAIN: After leaving tarmac, the final route is on grass which can be very muddy in places.
ACCESSIBILITY: Parking is difficult close by, but it makes for an easy walk from Methven along a minor road heading north-east and crossing Dalcrue Bridge. From then on the final route is through fields which may contain livestock.
NAVIGATION: After crossing Dalcrue Bridge and emerging out of the valley, the pillar is visible to the north-west on its hillock. Shortly after turning left onto a narrow minor road signposted to Moneydie, a track heads left in the direction of the pillar, and at its end a gate needs to be negotiated before beginning the climb up the hillside. In general, keep close to a fence which heads in the general direction, before another gate needs to be climbed just south of the pillar.
DANGER: Be vary of any livestock and barbed-wire fences.
