From the
Houston Cronicle October 11, 2012.
JOE A. BROWN, passed away on October 10, 2012. Joe was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 31, 1935 to Louis and Gertrude Brown. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Stanford Brown. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nina, of 50 years, his children, Gregg and Toby Brown and Stacy and Scott Doctor and four adoring grandchildren, Ryan, Ariel, Ashley and Emily.
Among many things, he will be remembered for his positive attitude and great sense of humor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and sharing stories with his family and friends.
Joe's love and devotion for his wife, Nina was evident in the work he did. In Nina's honor, he retired early from the real estate business to become a tireless advocate for Parkinson's disease at the local, state, and national levels. Together with Nina, he helped found Texans for Advancement of Medical Research (TAMR), and The Alliance for Medical Research (TAMR-Ed).
The family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Nadim Nasir, Dr. Theresa Vicroy, Dr. Kim Bloom, and the many other doctors that cared for him throughout the years. A very special thanks to Rosetta Shepherd and Kathryn Davila for the outstanding care they have provided, and to the Bellaire Fire Department and EMS for giving us so many extra years with him, as well as the wonderful CCU medical staff at The Methodist Hospital.
Honorary pallbearers are Sam Proler, Arthur Schechter, Bruce Stein, Hedley Karpas, Alan Rosen, Louis Brown, Dr. Robert Carpenter, David Askanase, Maynard Gimble, Gene Kaplan, Bill Stern, Dr. Michael Kaplan, Joel Rosenthal and Stan Doctor.
Memorial service will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood,
