The North Beach at Ramsey is a mainly sandy beach which slopes gently down to the sea and is loved by dog walkers, joggers and ornithologist. The Visit Isle of Man website describes the beach as a ‘golden, sandy beach’; this better describes the South Beach than the North Beach which although it is by no means a shingle beach does have more stones and certainly more than 50 years ago.

The North Beach is flanked by the Mooragh Promenade and border to the south by the northern stone breakwater which guards the entrance to the towns commercial port. To the north the Beach extends a little beyond the end of the Mooragh Promenade seawall.

The nearest access from the town centre is via 5 concrete steps opposite to Hope Street. There are two commemorative plaques at the access opposite North Shore Road which mark respectively the original opening of the Mooragh Promenade in August 1887 and then the Its reconstruction in August 1951. Access to the beach is from Mooragh Promenade and can be gained either by way of a few concrete steps or by using a 'slipway’ which is approximately half way along the beach opposite the Ramsey Rugby Club pitch.

The beach is part of the Ramsey Bay Nature Reserve which in turn is part of the Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. (visit link)

If you visit the beach when it is quiet then there is a good opportunity to watch Oystercatchers and other seabirds feeding or just resting.
