NZ1084 - USCGS 'ASHLAND' Triangulation Station - Ashland, OR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey triangulation station from 1952 in good condition. This station is one of three disks as part of the 'ASHLAND' series located atop a hillside and just west of a private driveway leading to a residence. The NGS datasheet description for this station is somewhat obsolete. The blazed tree is gone as well as the white witness post. The old wagon road mentioned is now a private driveway to a residence. The NGS coordinates should place you close to this station.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 (WRH) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A TREE COVERED NORTH-SOUTH RIDGE THAT IS ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF ASHLAND, ABOUT 0.2 MILE EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE ASHLAND CITY RESERVOIR. THE STATION DOES NOT SEE INTO THE CITY OF ASHLAND. THE STATION IS 22 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A TRIANGULAR BLAZED 10-INCH PINE TREE AND 5 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A WHITE WITNESS POST. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CONCRETE CYLINDER THAT PROJECTS 4 INCHES. THE DISK IS STAMPED--ASHLAND 1952.

TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE CITY LIBRARY IN ASHLAND GO SOUTH ON GRESHAM STREET TO IOWA STREET. GO WESTERLY ON IOWA STREET TO HILLCREST STREET. TURN LEFT, SOUTH, ON HILLCREST STREET TO VALLEY STREET. GO TO THE RIGHT ON VALLEY STREET TO TERRACE STREET. TURN LEFT, SOUTH, ON TERRACE STREET AND GO 0.45 MILE TO THE CITY WATER RESERVOIR AND A ROAD LEFT. TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW THE MAIN TRAVELED ROAD UP GRADE FOR 0.7 MILE TO AN OLD WAGON ROAD AND A TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE ON THE RIGHT AND THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. PACK WEST UP THE OLD WAGON ROAD FOR ABOUT 200 YARDS TO A TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREE AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 1.26 METERS.
