Der Fluss Eider war früher Teil einer Abkürzung von der Nordsee zur Ostsee. Dadurch wurde der Hafen groß. 1972 wurde das Eidersperrwerk eröffnet und die Fisch- und Krabbenkutter zogen dorthin. (visit link)

The river Eider was formerly used as a shortcut from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea. This led to a busy harbour. 1972 the Eider Barrage (Eidersperrwerk, (visit link) ) was opened and the shrimp boats, crab boats moved to there. Nowadays only a few fishing ships are still in this harbour. Tourism increased in the meantime and pleasure boater as well.
