"Wonthaggi is located 128 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. Home to the State Coal Mine that operated from 1910 to 1968. This thriving township offers a large variety of shops, eateries, accommodation and attractions. Sporting interests are well catered for with an excellent golf course, bowling greens, tennis and squash courts and heated indoor pool. There are several beaches close by including Cape Paterson and Harmer's Haven. Walk or cycle along the Bass Coast Rail Trail - Victoria's only coastal rail trail. It highlights the area's rich coal mining history and offers some magnificent views. Explore Baxters Wetland, Tank Hill Reserve, Victorian Desalination Project Ecological Reserve Trails, Wonthaggi Bushland Reserve, the North School Wild Flowers Reserve, the Old Rescue Station and the State Coal Mine walking tracks."
