The Latta Arcade is located at 320 S. Tryon Street in downtown Charlotte. This historic marker is inset into the sidewalk at the entrance to the Arcade, and reads as follows:
"[Charlotte/Mecklenburg Historic site logo] [drawing of the building]
THE LATTA ARCADE
A project of Edward Dilworth Loftus' Mercantile development company, opened in 1915. Designed by Charlotte architect William Pepys, this magnificent Art Deco complex housed the offices of the Charlotte con solid dated construction company, developer of Dilworth."
The Latta Arcade is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.
UHH, the Latta Arcade is actually NOT Art Deco, but Art Nouveau. It's too early for Art Deco. Just sayin'.
Blasterz are incredibly bummed out that we had so little time to explore downtown Charlotte, which looks modern and standardized, but if you look hard enough, there are eclectic hidden gems such as the Latta arcade. We would have loved to have gone in here, since this building has been a fixture in downtown Charlotte for over 100 years.
In 2017 the Latta Arcade is filled with restaurants, some of which have been operating in here for decades. It's fun place for Indian food Persian food Korean food Japanese food French food Greek food -- all the ethnic cuisines we love and had no idea were so close to our convention hotel.
