The Johnston building is a 17 story skyscraper built in 1924 located on downtown Charlotte's historic South Tryon Street. It's one of few vintage buildings to survive in this very modern revitalized downtown.
In 2017 the Fifth Third Bank is a primary tenant this building.
The marker reads as follows:
"[Charlotte/Mecklenburg Historic site logo] [graphic of the building]
THE JOHNSTON BUILDING
Built in 1924, owned by C. W. Johnston, originally housed offices of prominent textile companies, a cotton exchange and the office of former Governor-US Senator Cameron Morrison. Earlier on the site was the Charlotte office of J. B. Duke."
