"Francisco Soares Mesquita Machado (Pousada de Saramagos, Vila Nova de Famalicão, 18 de abril de 1947) é um político português.
Licenciado em Engenharia Metalúrgica, assumiu o cargo de Secretário de Estado do Fomento Cooperativo a pedido do então Primeiro-Ministro Mário Soares, abandonando o cargo aquando da sua eleição para a Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Braga.
Aderiu ao partido em 1975 e, um ano depois, iniciou carreira política como deputado à Assembleia da República, eleição que repetiu em todos os sufrágios desde então, com excepção das legislativas de 1991 e 1995.
Tinha 29 anos quando assumiu a presidência da Câmara Municipal de Braga, após uma infância passada na Venezuela, com os pais.
Desde as eleições autárquicas portuguesas de 1976 e até 2013, foi Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Braga, tendo sido sucessivamente reeleito sempre com maioria absoluta (1979, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005 e 2009) nas listas do PS."

Graduated in Metallurgical Engineering, he assumed the position of Secretary of State for Cooperative Development at the request of the then Prime Minister Mario Soares, leaving the position when he was elected to the Mayor of Braga.
He joined the party in 1975 and, a year later, began a political career as a deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, an election he has repeated in all elections since then, with the exception of the 1991 and 1995 legislatures.
He was 29 years old when he assumed the presidency of the Braga City Council, after a childhood in Venezuela with his parents.
Since the Portuguese municipal elections in 1976 and until 2013, he was President of the Municipality of Braga, and was successively re-elected with an absolute majority (1979, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2009) in the PS lists ."
